Introducing TagoCore v1.0: Free Open Source Edge Platform
TagoIO team
We are excited to announce a significant milestone in the evolution of TagoCore! With the upcoming release of TagoCore v1.0. If you've been with us during the beta phase, you're already familiar with TagoCore's commitment to adaptability and efficiency.
The TagoCore 1.0 update brings several exciting features, including integrating all plugins into the main codebase through a monorepo setup, and making public plugins fully open-source. Additionally, private plugins can now be easily deployed by simply dropping the plugin folder into the TagoCore Console, eliminating the need for building or bundling. We are also introducing Docker images for consistent deployment and offering direct repository access for a more hands-on experience. These enhancements are set to transform how you interact with TagoCore, ensuring a more seamless and efficient process.

What's TagoCore?
Before we go into the 1.0 update details, let's understand what TagoCore is. TagoCore is an open-source edge platform designed to empower developers and businesses by providing a robust environment for IoT applications. TagoCore is a centralized hub where data from various devices is collected, processed, and analyzed in real time. TagoCore's flexibility and adaptability make it an ideal choice for those looking to harness the full potential of IoT, offering seamless integration with a wide array of devices and services.
TagoCore is completely FREE! You can use it to evaluate a few sensors or scale up with thousands of sensors in production - it is always free.
Cloud Computing vs. Edge Computing
To better understand the importance of TagoCore, it is necessary to know the difference between cloud computing and edge computing. Cloud computing involves processing data in centralized data centers, which is ideal for tasks requiring significant computational power and storage. However, it can introduce latency issues, especially when real-time data processing is required.
On the other hand, edge computing processes data closer to the source—at the network's edge. This reduces latency and allows for faster decision-making. TagoCore leverages the strengths of edge computing, enabling devices to process data locally and only send essential information to the cloud. This approach ensures real-time responsiveness and minimizes bandwidth usage, making TagoCore an excellent choice for applications that require immediate data processing and action.
Why We Are Changing TagoCore
For some time, we've been listening to your feedback and working to create a version of TagoCore that represents an update and a transformation. We're saying goodbye to the old Plugin Store as part of this evolution. In TagoCore v1.0, all plugins will now be integrated into the main codebase through a monorepo setup. This means public plugins are fully open-source, allowing you to explore, contribute, and customize them to fit your needs. This change simplifies the process and aligns with our open and community-driven vision.
Private Plugins are also receiving a significant upgrade. Drop your plugin folder into the TagoCore Console without the need for building or bundling. That's right—no more compiling hassles. Both TypeScript and JavaScript plugins will work seamlessly, allowing you to code, load, and deploy effortlessly.
With this evolution, we're also phasing out the Plugin Store API. This change means you will no longer depend on internet access for deployment, paving the way for a more flexible, offline-ready TagoCore.
What's New About TagoCore 1.0?
Building and signing binaries was a complex process that could have delivered the expected stability and ease of use. Therefore, we are focusing our efforts on making TagoCore more accessible through the following methods:
Docker Images: This will be the recommended route, offering consistency and ease.
Direct Repository Access: Clone and run from the repository for a hands-on experience.
NPX Installation: Coming soon! This feature is in the pipeline for version v1.5.
